In Portugal, employees get paid once a month. Employees typically get paid on the 25th of every month. If this falls on a weekend, then they will receive their salary on the Friday before the weekend starts. Here’s how it works:

  • Employees get 14 installments a year: 12 months of salary + 1 Vacation allowance + 1 Christmas allowance.
  • These allowances are usually the same amount as a full month salary. This is mandatory, although at Remote, we allow employees to choose to get paid in either 12 or 14 installments.
  • The employee's annual salary must include the Christmas allowance and the Vacation allowance regardless of whether the annual salary is paid in 12 or 14 installments.
