What is the Dutch Unemployment Insurance (Algemeen Werkloosheidsfonds, AWf) about?

This is a compulsory employee insurance scheme that insures employees during unemployment. This way, employees have a temporary income during this period. 

There are two types:

  • Premie AWf hoog Unemployment Insurance (Effective 1 Aug): This premium is applicable for employees with fixed employment agreements (with an end date) and/or with no specified hours. For this, the contribution rate is 7.64%.
  • Premie AWf laag Unemployment Insurance: This premium is applicable to employees with indefinite employment agreements (without end date) and with specified hours (fixed working hours). For this, the contribution rate is 2.64%.
