Employees in Canada get paid on a biweekly basis - on the 15th and the last working day of the month. For new hires who complete their onboarding close to the pay period, they will not receive their salary as per the regular pay period. For example, if the employment agreement was signed on the 13th of that month, you will not receive your salary on the 15th pay period.
