Remote now supports a new automation action: Create a Task.
This feature lets you include manual steps in your automated workflows. For example, you might want a manager to assign an onboarding buddy, or for IT to send equipment to a new hire. Instead of tracking these steps outside Remote, you can now create tasks directly inside the platform.
When the workflow runs, the task is sent to the right person as a notification and email reminder, and they can mark it as Completed when finished.
How to Set It Up
- Go to Workflows → Automations.
- Create a new automation or edit an existing one.
- When adding an Action, select Create a Task.
- Add the task details:
- Description: what needs to be done (e.g., Assign onboarding buddy).
- Assignee:
- A specific user.
- The employee’s manager (automatically resolved).
- A role (e.g., HR, IT). All members are notified, but only one needs to complete it.
- Due date: choose how soon the task should be completed.
- Reminders: set daily or weekly email reminders until the task is completed.
- Save your changes and Publish the automation.
What Happens Next
- When the workflow is triggered, the assignee will receive:
- A Remote notification.
- An email reminder until the task is marked complete.
- Once the assignee finishes the step, they mark it as Completed in Remote.
- If the task was assigned to a role, all members are notified, but only one needs to complete it.
Example:
- Event: New hire contract signed.
- Action: Create a Task → Assign onboarding buddy.
- Assignee: New hire’s manager.
- Result: The manager is notified and reminded until they confirm the buddy is assigned.
