You can now automate the approval process for contract changes in Remote by setting up workflows that ensure the right people review and approve any updates. This helps your company stay compliant and maintain oversight, especially for sensitive changes like salary updates or job reclassifications.
When should I use contract approval workflows?
If your team manages agreements through Remote, approval workflows are helpful for contract changes like:
- Salary increases above a certain threshold
- Promotions or job title updates
- Changes to job category or seniority
For example: If you want to make sure your Finance team reviews any promotion with a salary increase above 150,000 USD, you can create a rule to automatically trigger approval when those criteria are met.
How to set up an approval workflow:
Step 1: Go to the Approvals tab
- Sign in to Remote
- From the left menu, select Workflows → Approvals
- Click Add new approval
- Select Contracts approval from the dropdown
If you already have other workflows set up, you’ll find the dropdown in the top-right corner of the page.
Step 2: Set your approval rules
In the workflow builder:
- Choose your rule. You can set conditions such as:
- New salary
- Job category
- Reason for change (e.g. promotion)
Choose the value that should trigger the workflow.
Example: New salary is higher than 150,000 USD
- Add more conditions if needed to refine when the approval is triggered.
Step 3: Assign approvers
You can assign individuals or admin roles to review and approve changes. Approvers will be notified in Remote and by email when their action is required.
There are two types of approvals:
- Manual approvals: A person (like a direct manager or admin) must review and approve.
- Automatic approvals: The change is automatically approved or declined based on the rules you've set.
💡 Tip: We recommend assigning more than one approver to prevent delays if someone is unavailable.
Step 4: Activate your workflow
Click Save and activate. The workflow is now live.
Next time someone submits a contract change that matches the rule, here’s what happens:
- The amendment status will show as “Awaiting approval”
- The assigned approver gets a task in Remote and an email notification
- They can approve or decline with a comment
- If approved, the change is applied
- If declined, the submitter will be notified with the reason
