Is Discovery Vitality included in the South Africa medical aid plans, and what does it cost?
No. Discovery Vitality is optional, and team members are not enrolled in it automatically.
Vitality is Discovery's separate wellness and rewards programme. It sits alongside the medical aid plan rather than inside it.
Who | Cost |
|---|---|
The employer | Nothing |
A team member who joins | About R400 to R600 a month |
Discovery sets the exact amount. A team member who joins pays it through payroll.
Vitality is never part of your medical aid cost. Your monthly cost for a team member is the medical aid premium for the plan you offer, and nothing else.
If you see Vitality listed at a zero cost against one of your plans, that zero is correct for you: you genuinely pay nothing for it. It does not mean Vitality is free for the team member who joins.
Joining Vitality is your choice. If you do nothing, you are not enrolled and you pay nothing.
Your medical aid cover is not affected either way. Vitality adds wellness benefits and rewards; it does not change what your Discovery plan pays for.
The medical aid plan itself, and from 2027 Discovery's Healthy Company Employee Assistance Programme, which covers counselling, financial coaching, legal support and physical wellbeing at no extra cost.
