This guide explains how Remote processes international payments through our trusted payment partners. You’ll learn about funding currency options, how to get started, and what to expect when setting up your payroll account — so you can manage global salary payments smoothly and stay compliant.
What is Remote’s payment partner?
Remote works with trusted third-party payment providers to process international and domestic payroll transactions. Our platform enables fast, secure payments in multiple currencies and ensures compliance with local banking rules.
Today, Remote handles salary payments through the Remote Payroll Payments Service. In some countries where Remote also handles tax filing and reporting, statutory payments may not yet be available. We’ll let you know if that applies to your setup.
Which currencies can I use to fund my Remote account?
You can fund your Remote account in several local currencies, depending on where your company is based. Local currency support is available for:
- SEPA countries
- Australia, Bulgaria, and Denmark
- Hungary, Norway, Sweden, and Poland
- Romania, Switzerland, and Singapore
- New Zealand, the United States, and the United Kingdom
We can offer local arrangements in some countries. Please contact our support team for more details.
For all other countries, we recommend funding your account in USD, GBP, or EUR.
No matter which currency you use, Remote will always pay your team members in their local currencies.
How do I set up a payment account with Remote's partner?
To begin making payments, you’ll need to complete a few onboarding steps. Here’s what to expect:
1. Onboarding
Start by entering your company’s basic details in the Remote platform. This includes:
- General company information
- Number of team members you plan to pay
- Company registration documents
If you’re in implementation, your Implementation Specialist will guide you through this stage.
2. Compliance checks (KYB)
To comply with financial regulations, our payment partner must complete a Know Your Business (KYB) check. This process verifies your company’s identity and documentation.
Compliance checks typically take up to 72 hours, but may take longer if documentation is incomplete or additional verification is required. To avoid delays, please ensure all documents are accurate and up to date.
Once your KYB verification is complete, we’ll confirm the month in which your payment account will be ready for use. This helps you plan your payroll funding and processing timelines accordingly.
If you're already live with Remote and haven’t completed this step, please email gp-help@remote.com. Our team will help guide you through the process.
3. Bank account setup for your team members
Each team member needs to enter their bank account information in the Remote platform. To avoid delays:
- Bank details must include a valid SWIFT/BIC code
- If any information is missing, they’ll receive an email prompt to update it
Payments can only be processed once this information is complete.
When are statutory payments supported?
At the moment, statutory payments (such as taxes and social security contributions) are only processed in countries where Remote supports these services. In other locations, you may still need to handle statutory obligations outside of Remote.
We'll let you know what’s supported in your setup during onboarding.
Are there any charges?
Yes, there are fees related to payment processing, currency conversion, and international transfers. Charges vary depending on your funding currency and the countries you’re paying into. Fee structures may change in the future.
Your Remote Customer Success Manager or Implementation Specialist can provide more information during setup.
How does payroll processing work?
After your payment account is active and your payroll is ready, you can begin processing. Here's how it works:
- Review and approve your payroll in the Remote platform.
- Fund your payroll using the account details provided on the Remote platform. These details will include the funding amount and may vary depending on your selected funding currency. You’ll need to use these account details to initiate the payment through your bank.
