Worksite Employee Benefits Package Overview

  • Updated

As part of your employment under Remote PEO, you have access to a robust package of Worksite Employee Benefits through our co-employment framework, designed to support your health, financial well-being, and peace of mind. All core Health & Welfare benefits are administered through Worklio, our primary system of record.

Can PEO clients offer benefits outside of Remote PEO?

When a company joins Remote PEO, all core benefits (including medical, dental, vision, group life, and disability) must be offered through Remote to eligible employees. Offering separate medical or ancillary plans through an outside broker is not permitted. Companies can also offer additional benefits like Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs), Commuter benefits, and retirement plans like a 401(k) through Remote.

Benefits are available through Remote's trusted carrier partners and are accessible during Open Enrollment or within 30 days of a Qualifying Life Event (e.g., marriage, birth of a child, loss of coverage).

Core Health Coverage (mandatory)

  • Medical Insurance (Carrier subject to underwriting approval)

    • Cigna Edison: A leading national health platform offering comprehensive Open Access Plus and PPO/EPO network options. Known for strong clinical care management, robust member support through Cigna Health Guides, and integrated health advocacy. Cigna Edison includes a dedicated mid-year deductible carryover process to ensure employees transitioning mid-year retain prior accumulations toward their out-of-pocket maximums.

    • UnitedHealthcare (UHC): One of the nation's largest healthcare networks, offering broad nationwide coverage across multiple plan tiers (such as Choice and Choice Plus). UHC plans are designed for maximum provider selection, extensive virtual 24/7 care access, and deep discounts across its national pharmacy network.

  • Dental Insurance (Guardian)

    • Comprehensive dental coverage options with access to Guardian’s preferred provider network:

      • Preventive care: 100% covered routine cleanings, exams, and annual X-rays.

      • Basic services: Fillings, simple extractions, and diagnostic care.

      • Major services: Crowns, bridges, root canals, and deep scaling.

      • Orthodontia: Available on select plan designs for dependent children or adults.

  • Vision Insurance (Guardian)

    • Managed vision benefits built to lower routine eye care costs:

      • Full coverage for annual comprehensive eye examinations.

      • Allowance/copays for prescription eyeglass lenses, frame selections, and contact lenses.

      • Exclusive discounts on LASIK and laser vision correction procedures.

Tax-Advantaged Spending Accounts (supplemental)

Spending accounts are administered via WEX. Employees may be asked to provide receipt substantiation for certain purchases, which is standard procedure.

  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA / DFSA)

    • Healthcare FSA: Set aside pre-tax dollars to cover eligible out-of-pocket medical, dental, and vision expenses (e.g., copays, deductibles, prescriptions).

    • Dependent Care FSA (DFSA): Pre-tax funds used specifically for qualified dependent care expenses (e.g., child daycare, preschool, summer day camps, or elder care) while you work.

    • FSAs run on a universal IRS calendar-year cycle (January 1–December 31).

  • Health Savings Accounts (HSA)

    • Available to employees enrolled in a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP):

      • Triple tax advantage: Tax-free contributions, tax-free growth, and tax-free withdrawals for qualified medical expenses.

      • Account ownership: Funds belong to the employee, never expire, and roll over year-to-year.

      • Account transfers: Employees with existing HSAs from previous employers can transfer their balances to WEX via the WEX HSA Transfer Form.

  • Commuter Benefits (Transit & Parking)

    • Administered via WEX, allowing employees to set aside pre-tax payroll contributions for commuting expenses.

    • Separate pre-tax contribution buckets up to the IRS maximum ($340/month per bucket) for eligible transit and qualified parking.

    • Contribution amounts can be adjusted monthly without requiring a Qualifying Life Event.

Income Protection Benefits

  • Short-Term Disability (STD) - Optional

    • Provides partial income replacement (typically 60% of earnings up to a weekly max) for non-work-related short-term illnesses, injuries, or maternity recovery. Administered through Guardian.

  • Long-Term Disability (LTD) - Optional

    • Continues financial protection and income replacement for extended medical leaves resulting from serious long-term disabilities. Administered through Guardian.

  • Group Life & AD&D Insurance  (mandatory min 50k coverage)

    • Employer-Paid Baseline: A mandatory basic Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment benefit provided by the employer via Guardian to ensure foundational security.

    • Voluntary Life / AD&D: Optional employee-paid supplemental coverage that employees can purchase for themselves, their spouse, or dependent children.

Voluntary Employee Benefits

Supplemental benefits are optional, employee-paid options through Guardian that pay cash directly to the employee to help cushion unexpected medical events:

  • Critical Illness Insurance

    • Delivers a lump-sum cash benefit upon the diagnosis of covered conditions such as cancer, stroke, heart attack, or major organ failure.

  • Hospital Indemnity Insurance

    • Pays fixed daily or per-admission cash benefits for inpatient hospital stays, assisting with non-medical household costs or high deductibles.

  • Accident Insurance

    • Directly compensates for unexpected costs tied to accidental injuries, emergency room visits, fractures, dislocations, or physical therapy.

Additional Included Programs (US PEO Only)

  • Rightway (Health Advocacy & Navigation)

    • Included automatically at no extra cost for all US PEO employees and their eligible dependents, even if they waive medical coverage.

  • Progyny Select (Fertility & Family-Building)

    • Bundled directly into eligible Cigna Edison and UnitedHealthcare medical plans at no separate cost.

    • Provides 2 Smart Cycles per covered member per lifetime for comprehensive fertility treatments (IUI, IVF, egg freezing), integrated fertility medication coverage via Progyny Select Rx, and 1-on-1 guidance from a dedicated Personal Care Advocate (PCA).

Retirement & Financial Planning via Slavic401k - Optional

A fully integrated, turn-key 401(k) retirement platform wired directly into Remote's payroll system powered by Slavic401(k):

  • Pre-tax traditional 401(k) and Roth 401(k) contribution options.

  • Automated compliance: Slavic handles non-discrimination testing, reporting, and IRS disclosures.

  • Employer match strategies: Worksite employers can establish custom matching or profit-sharing policies.

  • Access opens as employees approach their eligibility date.
