The bulk files uploader allows you to efficiently upload, categorize, and manage large volumes of documents for your team members and company all at once. This feature saves you time when migrating from another HR system to Remote or when you need to add documentation for multiple team members at the same time.

Accessing the bulk uploader

  1. Sign in to your Company profile and navigate to your Company Management > Files section
  2. Click the Add Files button at the top of the page
  3. Select Upload Files from the dropdown menu

Uploading and processing your files

Step 1: Select your files

  • Drag and drop multiple files or an entire folder onto the upload area
  • Alternatively, click to browse and select files from your device
  • Supported formats: Up to 1,000 files in PDF, JPG, and PNG only
  • Maximum file size: Files must be under 10MB each

Step 2: Choose your mapping method

You have two options for categorizing your documents:

  • AI Auto-Mapping: Remote AI automatically identifies file types and assigns them to the correct team members
  • Manual Mapping: You'll categorize each document yourself after upload

Step 3: Upload your files

  • Your browser will begin uploading the selected files
  • A progress indicator will show upload status
  • Important: Stay on this screen until the upload completes to prevent errors. If you change tab your progress may be lost.

Step 4: Review and categorize

After uploading, you'll need to review and complete the following information:

  • File type: Select the appropriate document category
  • Assigned to: Choose which team member or company the file belongs to
  • Privacy setting: Mark sensitive documents as "Private" (visible only to company admins)

Step 5: Finalize your upload

The summary screen will show:

  • ✅ Files ready to import (complete information)
  • ⚠️ Files requiring attention (missing information)

Click Finish to complete the process or Save as Draft to continue later.

Note: If you save the upload as a draft, you can find it under Add Files > View Upload History. You won't need to re-upload files that were already processed successfully.

Step 6: View uploaded files

Successfully imported files will appear in:

  • Individual Team Member Files sections when assigned to specific people. Team members will also be able to review the documents in their personal Remote profile.
  • Company Files section when assigned to the company

Tips for successful uploads

  • Use descriptive file names to improve AI auto-mapping accuracy
  • For large migrations, consider uploading in batches of 200-300 files
  • Keep your browser tab active during the entire upload process
  • If using AI mapping, verify all automatic categorizations before finalizing
  • Files marked as "Private" are only visible to company admins, not to the team members

Troubleshooting

  • Browser closed mid-upload: If you accidentally close your browser during upload, you may need to restart from your draft
  • Unsupported files: If you try uploading files other than PDF, JPEG and PNG, these will be automatically skipped during upload
  • Missing information: If AI mapping doesn't detect all required fields, you'll need to complete them manually
