Employees in Jamaica are entitled to 10 statutory public holidays per year, including national, historical, and religious observances. Part-time employees are entitled to pro-rated benefits if their schedule coincides with a holiday. If a holiday falls on a weekend, it is usually observed on the following Monday. Public holidays are not counted separately during sick leave, and maternity leave typically includes holidays within the leave period. Employees required to work on a public holiday receive double pay. Employees may refuse work on a holiday as it is a statutory entitlement.
