Why do I see errors when assigning an employee to a cost center?

Why is the effective date greyed out or showing an error?

Scenario 1: Date is before the cost center's effective date

You cannot assign an employee to a cost center before that cost center's effective date.

Example: If the Marketing_UK cost center is effective from November 1, the earliest you can assign an employee to it is November 1.

Solution: Either:

  • Change the employee's assignment date to match or be after the cost center's effective date, or
  • Contact us via live messaging to adjust the cost center's effective date

Scenario 2: Assignment conflicts with existing history

If you see an "Invalid data" error, your new assignment likely overlaps with or predates an existing assignment.

Example: An employee has these assignments:

  • Advertising_UK (effective January 1)
  • Digital_UK (effective June 1)
  • Marketing_UK (effective November 1)

If you try to reassign them back to Advertising_UK effective January 1, the system blocks it because the June and November assignments are still in place.

Solution: Contact us via live messaging. We'll remove the conflicting assignments first, then you can add the correct one.
