Remote Payment Services (RPS) is our regulated payment infrastructure that replaces third-party providers. It processes payments to Contractors and Remote Payroll employees securely and in compliance with local financial laws.

RPS is a group of licenced or registered payments entities, including:

  • RPS Europe BV - a DNB-regulated payment services provider
  • RPS UK Ltd - an FCA-regulated payment services provider
  • RPS Canada - a Bank of Canada-registered payments services provider and a FINTRAC-registered money services business (MSB)

Remote will automatically assign each legal entity in your account to the correct licensed payment entity based on its location. For example, a legal entity based in Canada will be onboarded to Remote Payment Services Canada.

How to get started with Remote Payment Services

Before you can send payments, each legal entity needs to complete a one-time verification process:

  1. Follow the guided verification flow in Remote to confirm your company details.
  2. Wait for approval. We’ll email you once verification is complete.
  3. Add your preferred payment method, such as bank transfer, direct debit, or credit card.
  4. Review your team’s information. Make sure contractor and employee details are accurate and complete.
  5. Confirm deposit methods. Review and approve the deposit method of every Remote Payroll employee and every contractor managed under the legal entity that has been onboarded to RPS. Each payee must be added as a trusted beneficiary before payments can be made.

Verifying your team members’ bank details

Before receiving their first payment, team members must add their bank information in the Deposit methods tab in Remote.

Here is how the process works:

  • Contractors and Payroll employees add their deposit method directly in Remote.
    • If the bank account holder name matches the name in their profile, no extra steps are needed.
    • If the name does not match, Remote will ask the team member to verify their deposit method. This process is handled between Remote and the team member, and no action is required from the customer.
  • Customers review each deposit method and confirm the payee as a trusted beneficiary. Payments can only be processed once this step is complete.

After your legal entity is verified and all deposit methods are approved, you can begin using RPS for:

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does verification take?

Verification is usually completed within 2 business days. If we need more details to finish the review, the timing will depend on how quickly the requested information is provided.

Will I need to verify each legal entity separately?

Yes. Each legal entity must complete its own verification before it can make payments.

Do my employees or contractors need to do anything?

Yes. Any employees or contractors whose name on their bank account differs to the name on their ID may be asked to provide something clearly demonstrating they own the account - e.g. in the case of contractors being paid to a business account. Remote will guide them through this step in their profile.

What happens if I skip business verification?

Payments won’t be processed until verification is complete. Remote will show reminders until all required steps are finished.
