Remote’s Contractor Management helps customers onboard, manage, and pay independent contractors. This article explains who can use Contractor Management, what customers need to do, and how contractors complete onboarding.
Who can use Contractor Management?
Customers can use Contractor Management to engage independent contractors in supported countries and territories. Availability may depend on the customer’s legal entity, the contractor’s country, and the Contractor Management plan selected.
Remote checks product and country availability during the contractor setup process. If a plan is unavailable for a particular engagement, Remote will show the available options.
For current country coverage, see:

Contractor Management is for independent contractor relationships. If the working relationship is more appropriate for employment, the customer may need to consider an employment option such as Employer of Record.
What does the customer need to do?
Follow the steps on How to add a contractor.
After sending the invitation, the customer can monitor progress from Team → Onboarding. If necessary, the customer can resend the invitation from this page.
Remote starts the customer’s Know Your Business (KYB) verification when the first contractor is invited. The customer can add and invite contractors while verification is in progress, but cannot approve or process contractor payments until verification is complete. For more information, see Why can’t I pay contractors yet?.
What does the contractor need to do?
After the customer sends the invitation, the contractor receives an email asking them to activate their Remote account. The contractor then needs to:
- Open the invitation and create a password.
- Review or enter their personal and administrative details.
- Provide business information and any country-specific supporting documents requested in Remote.
- Complete identity verification using a physical identification document and a camera.
- Review and sign the contractor agreement, where applicable.
- Complete the remaining onboarding tasks and open their Remote dashboard.
If the contractor previously completed onboarding with the same email address, Remote may copy some of their existing information. The contractor must review the copied information and confirm that it is current.
After onboarding, the contractor should add a withdrawal method before receiving payments. The available methods may depend on the contractor’s location and payout currency.
What happens next?
Once onboarding is complete, the contractor can use Remote to create invoices and receive payments. The customer must complete company verification and approve eligible contractor invoices before Remote can process payment.
