It is now possible to set up two-factor authentication (2FA) for your Remote account. To get started, you will need to download an authentication app. This authenticator app generates a unique time-sensitive security code. Any app that supports the Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP) protocol should work, including Google Authenticator or Duo Mobile.

To activate 2FA on Remote:

  1. Open your Account preferences page and go to the Security tab. Click on the Setup two-factor authentication button.

  2. After downloading an authenticator app, you can either:

    • Scan the QR code: with your phone’s camera or
    • Manually enter your secret key: You'll be given a secret key that you can type into the app.
      Then click on Continue.

  3. Once the authenticator app is configured, enter the security code it generates to verify setup and enable two-step verification. You’ll be provided with 10 backup codes that you should save in a safe place.

You’ll need your backup codes to log in to Remote when you don’t have access to your authenticator app. Without the backup code you’ll have to contact Remote support to recover your account. Congratulations. Your account is safer than ever 🎉
