Remote MCP lets an AI client work with your live Remote data in plain language. What it can do is always bounded by your Remote role, your permissions, and your company's settings, so the tools available will differ from person to person and will grow over time as we ship more. The lists below cover the categories available today. They aren't a fixed catalog.

What Remote MCP can read today

Reading is broad, and always limited to what you can already see in Remote. Depending on your role, it covers things like: employment and contracts; people, org structure, and reporting lines; time off balances, requests, and policies; payroll runs, schedules, and deadlines; invoices and billing; payments, payouts, and withdrawal methods; expenses and timesheets; benefits; performance and career development; compliance; legal entities and country requirements; reporting and data exports; and general HR and policy questions through knowledge retrieval.

  • Employment data: contracts, employee details, and contract status.
  • Org structure: reporting lines, teams, and departments.
  • Time off: balances, requests, and policies.
  • Payroll: payroll runs, pay schedules, and deadlines.
  • Invoices and billing documents.
  • Legal entities and country-specific information.
  • Timesheets.
  • Country settings and form schemas.

What Remote MCP can write today

Most of Remote MCP is read-only. The write tools you get depend on your role:

  • Employees can submit a time off request and update their own personal details, home address, emergency contact, career goals, and career journal notes.
  • Employers can update an employee’s home address and emergency contact, manage performance reviews and comments, configure workflows, and create data exports.
  • Admins can manage data-export templates and Rules Engine configuration.

All writes follow your role, permissions, and Row-Level Security, so the AI can only make changes you’re already allowed to make in Remote.

  • Time off: submit or approve a time off request.
  • Expenses: create or update an expense.

Which write tools you see depends on your role:

  • Employees and employers have a limited set of write tools.
  • Admins do not have write tools yet.

Write actions follow your role, permissions, and Row-Level Security, so the AI can only make changes you are already allowed to make in Remote.

What Remote MCP cannot do today

  • Show you data you can't already see in Remote.
  • Move money, or start payments, payouts, or payroll runs.
  • Make most changes. Writes are limited to the categories above, and the set grows over time.
  • Replace a stable, versioned integration for backend automation. Use the Remote API for that.
