Remote's report builder let you build, run, and share reports so you can track headcount, payroll, time off, and other key trends across your organization. This article gives you an overview of the ways to create a report and points you to step-by-step guides for each method.
Before you start
To create reports, you need the Custom Reporting permission. You also need the relevant permissions for each data source you want to include in a report (for example, Employee, Payroll, or Time off); without them, that data is not available to you. If you do not see the reporting options described below, ask one of your company admins to update your access.
Where to find reporting
- In your Remote dashboard, go to Reporting and Analytics.
- Select All reports.
- Select Create report.
Choose how to build your report
You can create a report in three ways. Pick the one that best matches how much guidance you need:
- Build with AI – describe the report you want in plain language and let Remote suggest the structure. This is helpful when you know the question you want to answer but are not sure which fields to use.
- Create from a template – begin with a ready-made report that follows a common pattern, then adjust it.
- Create manually – choose a data source, add the columns you need, and apply your own filters and grouping. This gives you the most control.
Refine your report
No matter how you start, you can refine a report before you run it. You can filter the data, group and summarize it (for example, by department or country), and add formula columns to create your own calculations.
What happens next
While you design a report, you see a sample preview of the data so the page stays responsive. The complete dataset is available after you run the report. Once a report runs, you can review the full results, export them, and share the report with the right people.
