Why is information marked as “No access” in Remote?
Remote uses custom roles and permissions to control which team members and information each company admin can access.
“No access” means your profile has been assigned to a custom role that doesn’t have permission to access specific information about a team member.
For example, you may have access to their profile but not certain personal, administrative, or payroll information, such as:
- Address
- Emergency contact
- Pronouns
- Payment information
- Salary
The information isn’t missing; access is restricted based on your role.
Your custom role and permissions determine:
- Which team members you can access: For example, everyone, people in a specific country or department, or people who report to you.
- Which information you can access: For example, personal details, team details, payroll information, or reports.
Owners and Super Admins can create and manage these custom roles.

Yes. You can create or access a report that contains restricted information. Remote applies your role permissions and displays “No access” or “-” instead of information you can’t access.
If your role doesn’t include permission to view a field, reports show “No access” or a dash instead of its value. Exports leave restricted values blank. The information isn’t missing; access is limited by your role.

If you have a custom role, your access to fields depends on the access level assigned to you. If a field shows No access, your role may not include the required permissions.
Contact an Owner or Super Admin at your company to review or update your role and permissions. For example, they can assign you:
- Team (View) access, which enables view access to all fields by default. They can then deselect fields that are not relevant to your role (e.g. salary).
- Team (Edit) access, which enables edit access to all fields by default. Currently, edit access cannot be restricted for individual fields.
- A more specific access level, such as Country, Department, or Direct Reports, and select the relevant fields. In this case, you'll only have access to data for people who match your access level, so your reports may contain a mix of data and No access.
