How much does it cost to add a spouse or child to the Discovery medical aid in 2027?
Discovery medical aid is priced per person. Each dependant added has their own monthly premium, so the cost of covering a family depends on how many dependants there are and how old they are.

A spouse costs the same as any other adult dependant.
The child price applies only under age 21. The month following a dependant's 21st birthday they are billed at the adult dependant price.
On most plans that is a large jump. On Classic Smart it is the difference between R1,301 and R2,571 a month.
Add the team member's premium, then each dependant at their own price:

With no dependants added, a Family plan costs the team member's own premium — on Classic Smart, R3,294.60 a month, not R7,166.60.
If the employer offers Family cover, the employer pays for the team member and for every dependant added. The team member pays nothing.
If the employer offers Employee Only cover, the employer pays the team member's premium and that figure does not change, whatever the team member does. A team member who wants to cover a partner or children pays for them through payroll, at the same per-person prices above.
