If you're planning to reward a team member with equity, you'll need to declare a new equity grant. An equity grant gives a team member the right to own shares or stock options in your company, usually over time through a vesting schedule.
This article shows you how to declare a new grant in the Remote Equity App, step by step.
-
Access the Remote Equity App: Go to the Equity App in your Remote dashboard. From the top menu, click Declare New, then select Declare Grant.
-
Select the team member: Use the dropdown menu to choose the team member who will receive the grant.
-
Configure the grant details: You’ll now enter the key information about the grant:
- Equity type: Select the type of equity you're offering, such as stock options or RSUs (restricted stock units).
- Quantity: Enter the number of shares or units the team member will receive.
- Vesting schedule: Choose how the equity will vest over time. If your standard schedule isn’t listed, you can create a new one.
- Vesting start date: Select the date when vesting begins. This is usually the team member’s start date or another milestone.
- Strike price: This is the price the team member will pay to buy each share (only applies to stock options).
-
Define the post-termination exercise period: This sets how long the team member has to exercise (buy) their stock options after they leave the company. You can choose from the standard options or create a custom time frame.
-
Apply advanced terms (optional): If your agreement includes special terms, such as accelerated vesting, you can add them here.
-
Add a grant label: This is usually a label from your Cap Table Management Solution to help you track the grant. If you don’t use one, you can create a label manually.
-
Upload supporting documents: Upload any relevant files, such as board approval or signed agreements, using the uploader at the bottom of the form.
- Review and submit: Check the details you've entered. Once everything is correct, click Confirm and Declare Grant to finalize the process.
