After uploading files to Remote, you can rename them to make it easier to identify and organize. This article explains how to rename files and what permissions apply based on who uploaded the file.
Who can rename files
As a company admin, you can only rename files that you uploaded yourself. Documents added by other admins, employees or by Remote cannot have their names changed by you.
How to rename a file
- Click on the Document management tab
- Select Choose Files
- Navigate to either the Team member files or Company files tab
- Click on the 3 dots (⋮) next to the file you want to rename
- Select Rename from the dropdown menu
- Enter the new file name
- Click Update to save your changes
Important notes
- Renaming a file only updates the file name displayed to users, it does not affect the file content
- The new file name will appear immediately after you confirm the change
- File extensions are automatically maintained when you rename files
- The original file name remains visible in the file details even after renaming
- When you download a renamed file, it will use the new name you assigned
