How to convert a full time employee to a contractor

If the employee has started work and they need to be switched to a contractor, their contract will need to be terminated first. To do this, the Customer can submit a termination request or the employee can submit a resignation request

If the Customer is submitting a termination request, on the request form, the termination reason should be Employee is changing to a contractor position.

If the employee is submitting a resignation request, on the request form, the termination reason should be Employee is changing to a contractor position.

Once this has been done by either party, our team will work on the offboarding of this employee. Once complete, the former employee can be onboarded as a contractor on Remote.

When an employee becomes a contractor, they are working directly with the Customer so any employment and tax risks are between the Customer and the contractor. Remote’s only involvement is to facilitate payment of invoices.
