In this article, we explain how company admins can use Remote’s Public Holiday Management feature to customize public holidays for their workforce. You can add, rename, or remove holidays to align with internal policies, depending on your setup with Remote.

How to manage public holidays in your company settings

Step 1: Go to the public holidays section

To view the list of countries where your hired team members:

  1. Navigate to Company settingsTime & Attendance.
  2. Select Public holidays.

Note: If you use more than one Remote product, your team members will be grouped as Employees hired by your company (HRIS, PEO and Payroll products) and Employees hired by Remote (EOR products)

Step 2: Select the country you want to manage

You can now:

  • View all national and regional holidays
  • Rename holidays to match your company’s naming conventions
  • Add custom company holidays (for example, a mental health day)
  • Add regional holidays (for example, Catalunya Day)
  • Delete holidays that are not statutory and your company doesn’t observe
Note: Statutory holidays required by law cannot be deleted. Customers using EOR products cannot edit national holidays for compliance reasons.

How to add a new public holiday for your team

Step 1: Fill in the holiday details

  • Choose whether to add the holiday to the national or regional list.
  • Select the Add button.
  • Complete the fields:
    • Name of the holiday
    • Date
    • Observed date (if different from the official date)
    • Duration (full day or half day)
Note: Only HRIS, PEO and Global Payroll customers can add, rename, or delete non-mandatory holidays. EOR customers can only view national and regional public holidays.

Step 2: Review and save

  1. After saving, your new holiday is saved as a draft.
  2. You’ll be redirected to the list of holidays for that country.
  3. You’ll see an Approval message, for example “1 national holiday is pending your review”.
  4. Approve or discard the draft to complete the task.
  5. Once approved, the holiday is added to affected team members’ time off calendars.
  6. They’ll be notified automatically via in-app notification.
