In Vietnam, expecting mothers are entitled to six months of maternity leave. This leave can be taken both before and after the birth of the child. Mothers can take up to two months of prenatal leave as part of this six-month period.
Maternity leave pay is provided by the Social Insurance Fund, not by the employer. However, some employers may choose to offer additional pay at their discretion.
Expecting employees are also entitled to five days off for prenatal medical appointments. One day is allowed for each appointment. If an employee lives in a remote area, they may be eligible for two days off per appointment.
If the birth requires surgery or involves multiple births (such as twins), the employee is entitled to an additional 14 days of leave.
How to request your maternity leave:
To request maternity leave, employees must log their leave through Remote's Time Off feature. This step is necessary even if the company uses a different time-off system, as recording leave through Remote ensures accurate tracking of leave balances and payroll calculations. Employees can submit their leave requests either via the browser or the mobile app.
How to claim maternity leave pay:
To claim maternity leave pay, employees should follow these steps:
- Upload a copy of the child's Birth Certificate, Birth Document, or Hospital Discharge Paper (Giấy khai sinh, Giấy chứng sinh, or Giấy xuất viện) to your Remote profile, under the Documents section.
- Once this step is completed, notify us by sending an email at help@remote.com or via the chat available in your profile.
- Remote will review the documents with the Social Insurance officer and will submit the documents along with the required report to the Social Insurance system to process your maternity leave pay.
This process ensures that your maternity leave benefits are correctly processed by the Social Insurance Fund.
