You can add your business entity details during onboarding or afterwards in your Remote profile:

  1. To add your business entity details during onboarding, go to the Business Information step and select Yes:

  2. To add your business details after you've completed onboarding, go to the Personal details tab in your profile and click on Administrative details:

What type of business entities are supported by the IRS and what do they mean (US contractors)?

The following entity types are supported by the IRS form W-9:

  • Individual/Sole Proprietor/Single-member LLC (Most common): Most contractors operate as this type of entity. If you’re not sure, you’re probably a sole proprietorship, because you would have had to file a lot of paperwork, establish business partners and incorporate your business to become one of the other entities.
  • Limited liability company (C Corp, S Corp or Partnership): Some businesses behave like a corporation at the state level but are taxed like a partnership, sole proprietorship, C Corp or S Corp. If you have formed an LLC in the US, select one of the LLC options.
  • C Corporation: If your company has shareholders and a board of directors and pays taxes separately from its owners (that is, twice), select this option.
  • S Corporation: If you’re an incorporated flow-through entity (you only pay taxes once), select this option.
  • Partnership: If you’re unincorporated and share ownership with one or more other people, select this option.
  • Trust/estate: If you’re unincorporated as a trust/estate, select this option.
  • Other: If none of the above choices apply to you, you may choose this option and specify the entity type that best describes how your business is incorporated.

How will my business entity information be used in Remote?

Once you add your Business Information details in Remote, they will be used in:

  • your invoices:

  • your contractor agreement, if your company uses a contract that supports it:

  • tax forms, like W-9, W8-BEN/-E and 1099-NEC:

As a contractor, if you have a company in your name, Remote can facilitate the payment to it.
