We have simplified the onboarding process to make it straightforward to get set up on Remote. If you're ready to start adding employees, you can sign up from here. We have a demo below of what the self enrollment process looks like for employees.
This article will cover:
How employee onboarding works
Every new onboarding is exciting as it validates our mission of making global employment possible. The employee's onboarding starts as soon as they are invited to Remote to fill out their personal details.

Once all the onboarding tasks are complete, the employee will get a confirmation message.
What happens next?
The onboarding team begins working on the employment agreement/contract only if the employee has completed their onboarding tasks on Remote. Once we have conducted the relevant checks, a dedicated onboarding specialist will reach out to the employee to guide them through the remaining aspects of onboarding, which include:
- Reviewing the employment agreement
- Making changes to the employment agreement
- Answering country-specific questions the employee may have
- Getting the employment agreement signed
- Enrolling the employee in any benefits the employee is entitled to per their contract
- Enrolling the employee in the payroll
Once all these have been completed, the employee is officially onboarded!

Onboarding timelines
In each country, there's a minimum amount of time we require for the employee to be fully onboarded before their start date. We will first need to conduct a right-to-work check (and in some countries, a medical check) before the employee can receive their employment agreement. The minimum amount of time needed depends on the country.
We have a list of the onboarding timelines for each country: Country Onboarding Timeline
What affects onboarding?
When there's a delay during onboarding, this may affect the employee's start date. An employee's start date can be impacted by a number of factors:
- The employee not completely filling out their personal information on Remote on time
- An employee not having the required documentation
- Back and forth on changes to the employment agreement
- Right to work and/or visa processes
- Undone medical exam (if applicable). See also: What countries require a health check?
It is not uncommon to move the employee's start date to ensure we have enough time to complete onboarding because we highly discourage the backdating of employment agreements.
